Winter ale trail launching across Greater Manchester featuring a whopping 65 pubs

A number of pubs across Greater Manchester will be taking part in an inaugural winter ale trail that kicks off later this week.

The Winter Warmer Wander is back after a four-year hiatus and is organised by the Stockport & South Manchester and High Peak Branches of CAMRA. It encourages people to try a range of winter beers, including stout and old ale, as well as a few new festive drinks like JW Lees’ Plum Pudding, from 65 different pubs.

Beginning from November 17, participants will be tasked with collecting stickers from participating pubs either for sheer fun or to win a series of prizes, including t-shirts and free beers.

Pubs included in this year’s trail will mostly be situated within Stockport and the city centre, including the likes of Piccadilly Tap at Piccadilly Station, the Ape and Apple on John Dalton Street, the Waterhouse on Princess Street and the City Arms on Kennedy Street.

The Wilfred Wood in Hazel Grove, the Red Lion in Withington, the Ash Tree in Ashton-under-Lyne, Costello's in Altrincham and the Gateway in East Didsbury are almost amongst the 65 pubs taking part.

The trail will run until Saturday 30 December and anyone is able to take part in the trail. To be eligible for a prize, participants will need to collect stickers from a minimum of twelve different pubs and drink at least half a pint of a cask ’winter ale’ in each.

Anyone who fancies taking on all 65 pubs will be rewarded with a Winter Warmer Wander sweatshirt, alongside four bottles of beer and entry into a prize draw to potentially win a further 12 beers.
