Why Matheus Nunes came off at half-time for Man City against Wolves

Matheus Nunes came off at half-time in Manchester City's defeat to Wolves because Pep Guardiola wanted to introduce a midfielder who was more dynamic and better in tighter spaces.

Nunes was booed throughout the opening 45 minutes as the former Wolves midfielder returned to Molineux having forced through his move to the Etihad this summer, while he was also subjected to some X-rated rants.

But Guardiola, who was serving a one-game touchline ban and watched the game from the stands, said the decision to bring on 20-year-old Oscar Bobb wasn't to do with the treatment Nunes was getting from the stands.

"I needed more dynamic, I want a little bit more in smaller spaces like Oscar is really good to find in the smaller spaces with the creativity he has to find someone," said Guardiola.

"That was the reason why, not because he was playing not good, but I thought Oscar could give us something different."

Guardiola's touchline ban came about after he collected a third yellow card of the season in the defeat to Newcastle in midweek, but he felt his absence from the technical area didn't unduly affect his players and he could still enter the dressing room before and after the game, as well as communicate from the bench.

"The view is perfect [from the stands], at the end when you are banned you are in the stands, the Premier League allow you to be here, the Champions League it cannot happen," he said.

"During the game you can be involved in something but not much, the players know what they have to do."
