Why Man City's Premier League game with Tottenham will be postponed

Manchester City's Premier League game with Tottenham will now be called off as a result of City's FA Cup progress.

The Blues beat Newcastle United in the quarter finals on Saturday evening to book a spot in a Wembley semi-final. Sunday's draw will determine City's opponents with Championship club Coventry City the only confirmed team in the hat.

Manchester United take on Liverpool on Sunday while Chelsea face Leicester to determine the other semi-finalists. The last four ties will take place over the weekend of April 20-21, meaning any scheduled league games on those dates will need to be rearranged.

Pep Guardiola's men are due to visit Tottenham but instead will be just up the road at Wembley. The Spurs game will be rearranged to a midweek slot, with details to be confirmed in due course.

City have precious few free dates available with the Blues still in the Champions League where they face Real Madrid next month. If Guardiola's men get past their Spanish oppositon then they will face a semi-final against Arsenal or Bayern Munich.

That would fill two more midweek slots and would likely leave the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the final week of the season in the week beginning May 13.

City have 10 league games still to play while they could have five more in the Champions League and two in the FA Cup as they chase an unprecedented double Treble. The FA Cup semi-final draw takes place after Man United's game with Liverpool on Sunday.
