Why Hull City outcast Mallik Wilks would be an ideal signing for Sheffield Wednesday

Out-of-favour Hull City forward Mallik Wilks is on Sheffield Wednesday's radar. Reports the Owls are exploring the possibility of signing Wilks in the forthcoming transfer window are accurate.

There is no denying that Wilks perfectly fits the profile of the type of player Darren Moore is looking to bring to Hillsborough ahead of the 2022/23 season. Wilks is quick, has got an eye for goal and can play in a number of different positions.

The Owls are eager to improve their options in the wing and forward areas. Wilks certainly ticks plenty of boxes.

Wednesday are in need of extra pace and dynamism in the final third. Signing someone of Wilks' pedigree would be a no-brainer and could potentially provide them more cutting edge.

Is Wilks available for transfer? Or will Wilks be given a chance to prove his worth in pre-season?

Our sister paper, Hull Daily Mail, have confirmed Wilks will be allowed to leave in this window. His career on Humberside has well and truly stagnated since Shota Arveladze's appointment as manager.

The Tigers recently exercised their option to extend Wilks’ contract for a further year but it would appear that move was only to protect the player's market value. It is believed Hull are ready to listen to offers for the player.

It remains unclear at this stage what sort of transfer fee Hull want for Wilks or whether the Championship club would be open to a loan deal. Things might become clearer on that front over the coming days and weeks.

But Wilks has already proven himself at League One level. The former Leeds United youngster was a key figure in the Tigers team who won the title in 2021, hitting 22 goals and bagging nine assists in 50 matches across all competitions.
