Why Hannibal Mejbri hasn't completed Manchester United loan exit yet

Hannibal Mejbri is set to join Birmingham City on loan from Manchester United before the deadline day of the summer transfer window.

The Manchester Evening Newsrevealed earlier in the month that the Tunisian was going to leave United on a temporary deal after Erik ten Hag approved a loan exit for the teenager.

It is understood Hannibal agreed to join Birmingham on a season-long loan a matter of weeks ago and has grown frustrated by how long the deal has taken to be completed.

The 19-year-old was not part of the U21s side that drew with Fulham on Friday night and was not involved in the senior squad that won at Southampton a day later either ahead of his imminent loan departure.

The Manchester Evening News understands that part of the reason there has been a delay in finalising the loan agreement is because Hannibal has been offered a contract extension by United before he goes.

The Tunisian teenager last signed a 'long-term contract' extension in March 2021 and has been offered another extension on top of that to secure his future at the club.

There have also been a few delays caused by agreeing on a fair wage split between the two clubs as well as guarantees about the attacking midfielder's playing time.

United have a good working relationship with Birmingham, having sent academy duo Teden Mengi and Tahith Chong on loan to St. Andrew's last season.

John Eustace's side currently sit 21st in the Championship, having one win, two draws and three defeats so far in the new season. They are next in action when they host Norwich on Tuesday night.
