The first piece of silverware on offer in the Scottish football season is set to be decided as Rangers and Aberdeen battle it out in the Viaplay Cup final.

After a trophyless campaign last term, Philippe Clement will have the chance to lift silverware just over two months since he walked through the doors at Ibrox and end the drought. The Belgian boasts an unbeaten record since taking over from Michael Beale this term - having piled the pressure on Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic and reached the last 16 of the Europa League.

Momentum appears to be building for the Light Blues, but the same can be said for Aberdeen who come off the back of two wins against Hearts and, famously, Eintracht Frankfurt. Factor in that Barry Robson's side boast an unbeaten record an unbeaten record over Rangers so far this term and you have a blockbuster contest that could go either way at Hampden.

Rangers will take the trophy home because failure to do so doesn’t bear thinking about for Philippe Clement and his players. But Aberdeen won’t come to Glasgow to roll over for them.
