Who will win Feyenoord vs Celtic? Our writers make their predictions for blockbuster Champions League opener

The waiting is almost over for Celtic as they prepare to return to the biggest stage in club football with their Champions League Group E opener against Feyenoord.

Brendan Rodgers takes his side across the North Sea hoping to show they aren't out of their depth among Europe's elite after picking up just two points last season with Ange Postecoglou earning draws at home and away against Shakhtar Donetsk. More will be expected in terms of points return, with improvement in Europe a big part of Rodgers' return brief.

Arne Slot's men won the Dutch Eredivisie title last season and are looking to make home advantage count in Rotterdam with Lazio and Atletico Madrid going head to head in Rome in the other game in the section. But for Celtic it's all about events in Holland and the Record Sport team have looked ahead to the big one in De Kuip and predict how it's going to pan out.

It looks a big ask for Celts with key men missing at the back and the Dutch side in red hot form. The Hoops can cause problems but could be in bother at the other end.

Feyenoord 3-1 Celtic

The strength of both sides is in their attacking play so expect goals in Rotterdam. Celtic will cause the Dutch side problems going forward and should get on the scoresheet. But injuries at the back have killed Brendan Rodgers and - even without Gimenez up front - Feyenoord can exploit a makeshift Hoops’ back line.

Feyenoord 2 Celtic 1

It’s going to be a big ask for Celtic to get off to a flyer against a Feyenoord side which is settled and firing on all cylinders already this season. But, even so, it’s not beyond Brendan Rodgers to nick a point from De Kuip and that would represent a strong start to the Champions League campaign.
