Who is Tommy Conway? The Scotland Euro 2024 hopeful that could answer Steve Clarke striker SOS

As soon as it was confirmed Lyndon Dykes is missing the Euros, attention turned to other viable striking options.

Scotland aren't exactly blessed with an abundance of riches up front. Lawrence Shankland is the hottest property in Scottish football right now and was always going to be on the plane after the season he's had for Hearts, while Che Adams looks to be getting back to his level after helping fire Southampton back into the Premier League. A goal against Gibraltar won't harm his confidence either.

But aside from Dykes, we're short on proper front men. We're able to mix and match between wingers and wide forwards, but in terms of leading the line through the middle, there's not a lot of depth. Tommy Conway however, is fit, in decent form and could well get his chance ahead of some of the others mentioned as potential replacements for Dykes.

He's stressed there's no one else who does what Dykes does in dark blue. But Conway is very much in his thoughts as he mulls over his options at the top end of the pitch, especially after finding the net for the Under 21s on Monday night.

Clarke said: “It was nice that Tommy scored. He is a good boy, Tommy, and he is certainly in my mind. Can we replace Lyndon like for like? No. Would it have been a better performance with Lyndon in the team? Probably no, because they dealt very, very well with high balls into the box.” But who is Tommy Conway?
