Victoria Wood statue knocked over in dramatic overnight crash
This is the scene in Bury after a statue paying tribute to one of the town's heroes was knocked down overnight. The Victoria Wood statue was unveiled in 2019, three years after the comedian and TV star's death.
It has stood in Church Gardens, off Silver Street, for five years as a tribute to her legacy. But now it is on its side and surrounded by barriers, having been knocked out of the ground in a collision.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the collision late last night (June 3). A silver people carrier was seen involved in the smash, with its front end trashed in the collision.
