Who is Nigel Farage in ITV's I'm A Celebrity 2023?

Ten new celebrities are heading into the Australian jungle as this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! returns to ITV - and ex-politician Nigel Farage is among them.

The GB News presenter and former UKIP leader will be battling it out to win the crown in the 23rd series of the show. The 59-year-old, known for his right-wing views, told ITV he's hoping to change people's minds about him after being "demonised" in recent years. "I am hoping those who hate me might hate me a little bit less afterwards," he said. "But it’s a gamble."

Eurosceptic Nigel, who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for 21 years before the UK left the EU in 2020, was a founding member of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), serving as leader between 2006 and 2009 and again from 2010 to 2016.

Nigel left the party in 2018 after becoming unhappy with the way it was being run by new leader Gerard Batten and the decision to appoint Tommy Robinson as an advisor. "There is a huge space for a Brexit party in British politics, but it won’t be filled by Ukip," he said at the time. Less than a year later, he returned to politics by launching the Brexit Party, which went on to win the most votes in the May 2019 European elections, becoming the largest single party in the European Parliament.
