Who is Jeremie Frimpong? The Bayer Leverkusen right-back Manchester United are monitoring
Former Manchester City defender Jeremie Frimpong is being targeted by Manchester United ahead of the summer as Erik ten Hag eyes four areas of improvement in the squad.
Reinforcements in attack, in midfield and in central defence are being spied, while right-back is also a position due to be addressed. Diogo Dalot’s contract does not run out until 2028 but Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be on the move.
The 26-year-old recently had his year-long contract extension triggered but perhaps only so he can be sold for a fee this summer. United held talks with Frimpong last year and MEN Sport understands that he is still on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist.

Frimpong came through the ranks at Man City but decided to leave for Celtic in 2019, where he won the Scottish domestic treble in 2020 before leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021. “I wanted first-team football and if that wasn’t coming at City then it had to be somewhere else,” he said of his exit from the Etihad Stadium.
“It wasn’t easy for me leaving, I’d been there all my life. But I had to try it. If you are passionate and serious about football, you can’t be staying the same.”
Ten Hag will hope that his career stance will encourage him to make a move to Old Trafford amid huge interest in the Netherlands international. Frimpong has largely played as wing-back under Xabi Alonso and has drummed up some impressive stats.
