Whitburn lift Centenary Cup after cup final thriller against Linlithgow

It was party time at Prestonfield for Whitburn after they won the Centenary Cup in a thrilling affair against Linlithgow Rose at Prestonfield on Sunday.

To mark the East of Scotland Football League’s 100th year, the organisation ran a special tournament featuring last season’s winners of all four divisions.

And the final proved to be a cracking West Lothian derby affair which ended in a 3-2 victory for Whitburn.

Despite being the underdogs - playing two divisions below the hosts - Darren Wilson’s side got off to a blistering start as a double from Harrison Edwards was added to by a fine header from top scorer Ross Crawford to put Whitburn three goals up.

The Lowland League hosts fought back and reduced the deficit thanks to goals from Calum Rae and Sean Heaver either side of the half-time interval.

Heaver then missed a glorious chance to get his side back on level terms when his penalty was saved by the legs of Danny Farrell and the Burnie held on.
