David Moyes admits Celtic face 'elite' Champions League truth as he sides with Ally McCoist's Rangers theory

David Moyes has told Celtic that Champions League wins against the world's best are going to prove more elusive with each passing year - as he points the Hoops and rivals Rangers to West Ham success.

The Scotsman wrote himself into the Premier League club's history books last season by lifting the Europa Conference League in Prague with victory over Fiorentina. They now join Rangers in the Europa League while former side Celtic tussle at the top table with Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid and Lazio.

Appearing on talkSPORT with Ally McCoist, the Rangers icon put his views to the Hammers boss on how competitive Celtic and his beloved club can be in Europe amid opponents boasting unimaginable resources. He said: "Realistically, I am of the opinion that clubs like West Ham, whether it be Brighton, even Rangers and Celtic, have no chance of winning the Champions League. Certainly Rangers and Celtic in the current climate.

"But that tournament now that you have put it on the map, you saw how much it meant to the West Ham supporters. Tell us a bit about how you felt about it."

Moyes was in unison with his former national team roommate and insisted that UCL victories against the elite are almost a pipe dream, with the Conference League an alternative for clubs with smaller budgets. He explained: "I agree with everything you are saying, Coisty.

"To be a European winner is something really special. The night was magical for us and for us to score in the last minute makes it even better.

"But I look the year before what it meant to Jose Mourinho, they (Roma) were the first winners of the competition. Jose has been serial winner and how much it meant to him.
