Which Manchester United matches Andre Onana could miss due to AFCON

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana could miss as many as nine matches while representing Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations next year.

Onana is currently under the microscope at Old Trafford following several major errors during the defeat to Galatasaray on Wednesday night. United ended up drawing with the Turkish side meaning their hopes of progressing to the Champions League knockout stages hang in the balance.

MEN Sport understands Onana is becoming increasingly concerned he will lose his place permanently in the United starting XI when he jets off to AFCON in January. During his absence, understudy Altay Bayindir is set to take his place and after an inconsistent start to life in Manchester, the Cameroonian shot stopper fears his position is at risk.

Ahead of the prestigious tournament, the Manchester Evening News has taken a look at which matches United could be missing Onana for amid his concerns of being replaced.

AFCON begins on January 13 but Cameroon's first group game will take place two days later. The final will be held on February 11.

Onana's last match for United before AFCON will take place on December 30 when the Reds travel to Nottingham Forest.

Should Cameroon reach the semi-finals or beyond, Onana will miss four Premier League matches:

The keeper is likely to be absent for the FA Cup third round which will take place between January 5-8. If United were to face a replay he would also miss that game. Should United progress to the fourth round, Onana could also miss that clash on the weekend of January 27-28 as well as a potential replay.
