Which games Erling Haaland could miss after fresh Man City injury setback

Manchester City may have to cope without Erling Haaland for the rest of this month after doctors advised the striker to miss training this week.

The attacker has not played in five weeks after sustaining a stress injury in his foot, last featuring in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa. Haaland’s absence against Newcastle on Saturday will mean he has missed nine games through injury this season, triple the amount of last campaign.

City have managed to cope in his absence, scoring 24 times in eight matches and are yet to lose since his injury. However, there is no doubting that the Blues are a more appetising opponent for rivals with Haaland out of the picture.

It is hoped that the Norwegian will be back training with the group in next week’s midseason camp in Abu Dhabi but City play two further games before then. The Treble winners travel to Tottenham in the FA Cup on Friday, January 26 after Saturday’s clash with Newcastle.

City have found it notoriously hard to win away at Spurs, losing all four of their last Premier League trips and failing to score in either.

So profound is the bogey fixture that Pep Guardiola said his new year’s resolution is to score against Tottenham away from home. He will be without his goal machine for this season’s trip.
