When the heatwave is set to end as red Met Office warning remains in place

Extreme heat warnings are in place across most of the UK as a heatwave takes hold of the country. According to the Met Office temperatures of up to 37.5C have been recorded in the UK on Monday afternoon, while Wales has experienced its hottest day on record with a high of 37.1 record in Flintshire.

Forecasters predict that Tuesday will bring even hotter temperatures as conditions will remain warm overnight. The current record for the hottest day in the UK is 38.7C, recorded in 2019.

Met Office weather warnings remain for large areas of the UK until midnight on Tuesday. An amber warning is in place for extreme heat across England, Wales and southern Scotland.

Meanwhile a rare red warning has been issued for parts of central England, including Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham and London. The warning states that an 'exceptional hot spell' will have a widespread impact on people and infrastructure.

On Monday there was already significant disruption to travel, with many trains cancelling services due to the extreme weather. People have been urged to only travel if necessary while some schools have closed early.

According to the Met Office England, Wales and parts of Scotland will experience 'exceptional and record-breaking heat' on Tuesday. A high of 37C is predicted for 2pm in Manchester on Tuesday, with temperatures not expected to drop below 30C until 6pm.

Tuesday evening will remain warm but it will drop to 17C by 7am on Wednesday morning as the heatwave draws to a close. A high of just 19C is forecast for Manchester by 1pm so people can expect a much cooler day. Cloudy intervals and highs of 21C are forecast for the rest of
