Young man killed after Range Rover smashed into phone mast named

A young man who was killed after a Range Rover smashed into a phone mast in Gorton has been named as Danyal Ul-Haq. The 23-year-old, understood to be from Oldham, was travelling in the front seat of the car when it crashed on Hyde Road near the junction of Debdale Lane in the early hours of July 12.

Mr Ul-Haq was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the horror smash. His family have been informed and are currently being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the blue Range Rover - a man - was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following the smash. A second passenger suffered minor injuries, officers said.

Police enquiries suggest that a grey Audi A3 may have been involved in the crash. A 23-year-old woman - the driver of the Audi - was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail.

A man, aged 26, was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice and was expected to be released on bail on Wednesday. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for an update on the investigation.

A spokesperson for Manchester Coroner's Court confirmed the court was aware of Mr Ul-Haq's death and that the coroner had received an initial report from GMP. A formal inquest has yet to be listed.

Scores of people are believed to have attended the Pakistani Community Centre in Glodwick, Oldham on Friday (July 15) for his funeral.
