When rearranged Man City vs Brentford Premier League game might take place

Manchester City find themselves in the unfamiliar position of fifth at Christmas ahead of their return to Premier League action. The Blues were without a fixture on Saturday afternoon with their scheduled clash with Brentford called off. That was because Pep Guardiola's side were in Club World Cup action on Friday night.

City swept aside Brazilian side Fluminense in the final in Saudi Arabia to secure their fifth crown of an unprecedented year. The Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and Super Cup are already under lock and key at the Etihad.

Guardiola's side will hope to retain at least one of those competitions next year but they will once again have to come from behind if they are to win the domestic title. City return to action against Everton on Wednesday.

And they will need to find a new date to squeeze in their match with Brentford, adding to a hectic schedule in the second half of the campaign. City are in the last 16 of the Champions League and face FC Copenhagen as favourites to reach the quarter-finals.

A deep run in Europe will take up the majority of midweek dates for the Blues while they begin their FA Cup defence against Huddersfield Town next month. Again, City will be strongly fancied to go far in that competition.

There are two midweek dates set aside for third and fourth round replays (week beginning January 14 and February 5) which could open up an opportunity to fit the game in. City actually travel to Brentford on Saturday, February 3 in the reverse fixture.
