What Peter Schmeichel did after Andre Onana's Manchester United penalty save

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel failed to keep his emotions under wraps after Andre Onana's dramatic 97th-minute penalty save against FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Onana was the hero of the hour, thwarting Jordan Larsson from the penalty spot with the very last kick of the Group A encounter. United had taken a 1-0 lead into injury time following Harry Maguire's header with just under 20 minutes of normal time left on the clock.

The Reds conceded a penalty in the dying seconds of the game after Scott McTominay was adjudged to have caught former Southampton winger Mohamed Elyounoussi with a high foot. VAR reviewed the decision but decided to stand by on-field referee Marco Guida's original call to award a spot-kick.

Onana, who has come under fire from some United supporters following his below par start to life at Old Trafford, dived to his left to turn Larsson's effort away. The save sparked pandemonium in the stands and on the pitch.

Onana was immediately mobbed by his teammates and at the other end of the field former United shot-stopper Schmeichel, who won the Champions League with the Reds in 1999, could not help but join in with the celebrations. Working as a TV pundit, the Dane was stood at the mouth of the Stretford End tunnel along with fellow pundits Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand. Looking down, seemingly at a monitor, Schmeichel failed to keep his cool when Onana turned the ball away and the home crowd erupted.
