What Pep Guardiola told Phil Foden before Man City trophy lift gives clue about next season

Pep Guardiola and Phil Foden reflected on how far the Manchester City winger has come during a touching moment just before lifting their latest Premier League trophy.

City won their fourth title in a row to set a new English record this season, with Foden stepping up with the best form of his career. The forward showed his credentials as a future No.10, winning the Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year.

Foden, who has just turned 24, has 17 winners' medals in his collection, averaging a trophy every 15 appearances across his 270 City outings. And his form this season prompted his manager to assert that he has 'grown up' in a breakout campaign to become a figurehead for Guardiola.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "It's funny, I feel that the City manager sometimes thinks I'm still that little boy, which I don't mind. Even when I was walking on stage to get my [Premier League] winner's medal the other week he said to me: 'You've grown up now!' It's nice to have been on this rollercoaster with him and to have shared so many great memories."

Still, if Foden thinks that will set him up for an easier ride next season, he knows not to fall into that trap as long as Guardiola remains at the Etihad.

"You know the manager," he said. "He still wants more from us and I love that about him, pushing us to extreme levels. I've never seen anyone like him. I don't know how he keeps going with this energy. I couldn't have had a better person to help me along the way than
