What Pep Guardiola told Cole Palmer to do before coming on to score for Man City vs Arsenal
Cole Palmer has revealed Pep Guardiola told him to "be himself" before he came off the bench to score a wonder goal for Manchester City vs Arsenal.
The talented winger cut inside and bent the ball into the top corner to open the scoring in the Community Shield. Leandro Trossard scored deep into added time to rescue a 1-1 draw for Arsenal.
The Gunners went on to beat City 4-1 on penalties. The England youth international outlined his thought process for the goal and the advice Guardiola gave him before he was brought on in the 64th minute to replace Erling Haaland.
"When I received the ball [Kyle] Walker told me to get at him," Palmer told ITV Football. "Pep said to just be myself so when I came inside I saw the far corner and thankfully it went in.

"I had a shot before that where maybe I could've shot first time so when the second one came I wanted to make it count."
Palmer has been linked with a loan move away from City this summer as the club consider the best steps for his development. The winger admits he wants to play more matches and is unsure where his future lies.
"I don't know, we will see," he said. "We'll have to see what the plan is for next season.
"I will see where I am playing and I want to be playing as many games as possible. I feel fresh from England, the game wasn't long ago, under a month. I feel fresh."
