Saudi Arabia 'eyeing' Kevin De Bruyne swoop and more Man City transfer rumours

Manchester City could face a challenge from Saudi Arabia next summer for star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, according to reports.

City have already lost a player to the riches of the Saudi Pro League this summer. Al-Ahli made a £30m move for winger Riyad Mahrez and Pep Guardiola admitted the player received an offer he could not refuse.

After Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al-Nassr following his acrimonious departure from Manchester United, several Premier League stars have made the switch to Saudi Arabia this summer. As well as Mahrez, Liverpool trio Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino, Newcastle United's Allan Saint-Maximin, Chelsea trio N'Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy, and Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves have all made the switch over to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

More top-flight stars could yet make the move, either this summer or in the future. It appears City's talisman in the form of De Bruyne could be next in the sights.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Saudi Pro League has set their sights on both City star De Bruyne and Liverpool's Mo Salah in the summer of 2024. City and other Premier League clubs are bracing themselves for more disruption to their squads as the state-backed league has money to burn meaning no player in Europe is out of reach.

Another concern for top-flight clubs is that this season’s Saudi business hasn’t been completed with their transfer window not closing until September 20th – 19 days after the Premier League’s signings deadline. That leaves clubs vulnerable to losing players they cannot replace.
