What Morgan Gibbs-White told Tommy Doyle about Sheffield United ahead of loan move from Man City

Morgan Gibbs-White told Tommy Doyle to 'just go' when the Manchester City youngster told the former Blades loanee about the club's interest. The pair were together with England under 21s when Doyle got the phone call to say Sheffield United were interested.

With Rhian Brewster missing through injury, Doyle knew Gibbs-White would be the best person to speak to about a possible move to S2. The Wolves midfielder enjoyed a superb season on loan, being crowned the club's player of the year.

His 12 goals and 10 assists helped the Blades into the play-offs, before a penalty shoot-out defeat to Nottingham Forest at the semi-final stage. He has returned to his parent club and is now the subject of big-money transfer speculation.

It was a loan move that worked well for all parties and Doyle is hoping it can do the same for his career. Gibbs-White was perhaps the best person to speak to about a move to Bramall Lane and he feels it will be a perfect move for the 20-year-old.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live at the club's training base here in Portugal, Doyle said: "We were on international duty together when I got the message saying Sheffield United were interested in me.

"I had a word with him [Gibbs-White] and you can tell he enjoyed it just with how he played. When the best players are comfortable they perform at their best.

"He really enjoyed his time here. He said 'listen, don't even think about it, just go'.

"He knows the type of person that I am and the type of player that I am. He thought I would fit in here really well."
