What Manchester United takeover means for Old Trafford as Victor Lindelof opens up on future

Manchester United may not have been in action this weekend but plenty of developments off the pitch have happened in the last few days.

The Reds' ongoing takeover nightmare could be coming to an end soon after Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced he was withdrawing from the process. This has opened the door for INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe to swoop in and take a minority stake of United thought to be worth around 25 per cent.

United could be set to push ahead with their plans to renovate Old Trafford following the latest takeover news over the weekend.

United had effectively put their stadium plans on hold until there was clarity on the takeover situation, and that clarity now appears to have been gained.

The Manchester Evening News revealed in March that United's powerbrokers were in favour of renovating Old Trafford, despite exploring options to build a new stadium.

Victor Lindelof expects to have his contract renewed ahead of its expiry in the summer.

Although Lindelof is not first-choice in his position, he's an integral part of Erik ten Hag's squad and he was considered third in the centre-back pecking behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez for the majority of last season.

Lindelof made 35 appearances and he was preferred over Harry Maguire, who was still club captain last term, in various games.
