Belgium vs Sweden Euro 2024 qualifier abandoned after two people shot dead in Brussels

The Euro 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden was abandoned after two people were shot dead in Brussels.

Fans of both teams refused to come out for the second half upon hearing the news while fans have been told to stay inside the stadium.

The score in the game was 1-1 at half-time when play was abandoned 30 minutes after the interval began. Belgium's official account wrote on X: "Due to the incidents in Brussels earlier tonight, play is suspended. Our thoughts are with all those affected."

Sweden's official social media account added: "Message to Swedish supporters on site in Brussels: The Belgian police want Swedish supporters to stay in the arena for security reasons. Take part in information from officials, authorities and staff on site.

"We will return when the Belgian authorities provide us with new information. Keep calm and take care of each other. Our thoughts go out to all the relatives of those affected in Brussels."

Supporters have been asked to stay inside the stadium for their own safety. It's claimed Sweden's players didn't want to continue the game following the attack, with Belgium supporting that decision. A terrorism probe has been opened following the shooting.

A video circulating on social media shows a man claiming to have killed three people. That video and other footage of the attack is still being verified by police.

Belgium's Prime Minister Alexander De Croo wrote on X: "I have just offered my sincere condolences to the Swedish Primer
