What Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel told Andre Onana after penalty save

Peter Schmeichel told Andre Onana he was 'too humble' and a 'hero' for his sensational last-gasp penalty save to secure the win over FC Copenhagen.

Manchester United stretched their winning run to three matches on Tuesday with a dramatic 1-0 win over the Danish side to maintain their chance of qualifying for the Champions League knock-out stages. Harry Maguire made the difference with a late header but the match will be remembered for Onana's heroics.

A lengthy VAR check meant the game was three minutes over the allotted added time before the penalty was taken. It would be the last kick of the game.

A draw would have kept United bottom of Group A and in serious peril of elimination but Onana pulled off a superb save that sent Old Trafford into raptures. Schmeichel was one of those celebrating wildly and caught up with his fellow goalkeeper after the match.

"You saved [the penalty] and made yourself a hero..." Schmeichel began to put to Onana before the Cameroon interjected "No I don't think so, I think the hero tonight is Harry. He scored a great goal for us, he gave us the victory today"

Schmeichel continued: "I think you're being quite modest, I was in the tunnel when you made the save at the other end of the stadium but I can tell you the applause you got. You made all the Manchester United fans really, really happy."
