Mason Mount has already explained how he can replace Christian Eriksen at Manchester United

Manchester United are set to be without Christian Eriksen until the middle of December after he was ruled out for a month with a knee injury.

The midfielder, who has been forced to pull out of the Denmark squad for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Slovenia and Northern Ireland, was forced off in the closing stages of the first half of Saturday's 1-0 win over Luton Town at Old Trafford. He was replaced by summer signing Mason Mount five minutes before the half-time interval.

Mount slotted into United's midfield-three, joining forces with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, helping the Reds record a fourth win from their last five Premier League outings. Though his performance wasn't glittering, he did play a key role in the build-up to Victor Lindelof lashing home the winning goal.

Mount's appearance against the Hatters marked his fourth successive Premier League appearance from the bench, with his last league start being awarded to him against Brentford on October 7. Since then, Ten Hag has experimented with his midfield combinations but has deployed a trio of Eriksen, McTominay and Fernandes in each of United's last three games in all competitions.

That has meant the Dutchman has operated without an out-and-out defensive midfielder in the engine room, with Casemiro currently sidelined through an injury of his own and loanee Sofyan Amrabat being overlooked. The latter has not started since the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the end of last month, starting the last four games on the bench.
