What is BlueSky? The new app that looks identical to Twitter set up by its former owner

A new and exclusive social network that is almost identical to Twitter has been launched by the platform's former boss. BlueSky is backed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and it already has people lined up to join.

It was placed on the Apple app store back in February before being made available to Android users this month. However, it is still in it's private beta stage and the only way to access it is by invite. You can get an invite by visiting their website and providing your email address.

According to the CEO Jay Graber, the social network has a waiting list of 1.2 million people.

What does BlueSky look like?

Screenshots of the app have been posted by a lucky few who have managed to enter the beta and the app looks very similar to Twitter. A profile features all the things you'd expect, like a header, profile picture, name of the profile, the number of followers, following and posts.

On the app you can like post, repost content and leave a comment. However, what differentiates BlueSky from Twitter is the way it is operated.

BlueSky is a decentralised social app, meaning it runs off multiple servers instead of just one.
