Manchester United announce Arsenal friendly during United States tour

Manchester United will begin their pre-season tour of the United States with a friendly against Premier League rivals Arsenal in New York.

The two clubs will meet at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, July 22, ending a three-day stay in the Big Apple for Erik ten Hag's squad.

United arrive in America on Thursday, July 20 and will spend two days training in New York before the fixture against Arsenal. They will then move to the west coast and set up camp in San Diego, with fixtures confirmed against Wrexham in the city and Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas.

The game against title challengers Arsenal will be the first time United have played in New York for 12 years and football director John Murtough said the squad are looking forward to visiting the city.

“Manchester United versus Arsenal is one the most famous and anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar and supporters from both clubs understand how big the rivalry between the two sides is," he said.

"It’s great to be able to bring this match to New York and play in front of what I am sure will be a sell-out crowd.

“I know Erik and the squad are looking forward to starting their pre-season preparations in New York and utilising the great sporting facilities available to us in the city.

"The last time United played in New York was in 2011, so we are excited to be returning after such a long wait. There is no better location to kick start the Club’s Tour 23."

United have one more fixture in their tour schedule to confirm.
