What Erling Haaland did after being substituted and more Man City moments missed vs Arsenal

Manchester City missed out on the 2023 Community Shield after a late Arsenal equaliser saw them go on to lose on penalties.

Cole Palmer thought he'd won it for City with a superb curling strike into the top corner. Arsenal pulled themselves level deep into added time, with Leandro Trossard's deflected strike finding the net with 101 minutes on the clock.

The Gunners then defeated City 4-1 from the spot to inflict a third successive Community Shield defeat in a row on Pep Guardiola. Fortunately, it's not had much impact previously with City winning the title each season.

With just over an hour played, Guardiola decided to wrap Erling Haaland up ahead of the Premier League opening weekend. The forward hadn't been overly involved and with 63 minutes gone he was replaced.

The Norwegian striker left the pitch to a chorus of boos from the Arsenal end. He reacted in comedic fashion, giving them a little bit back.

Haaland was photographed holding three fingers up to the supporters, in recognition of City's treble last year. Of course, it was Arsenal they pipped to the Premier League title.

Much has been discussed around Palmer this summer and his goal against Arsenal was another reminder of what he can do. The playmaker was almost the match-winner for City with his sublime strike.
