What David de Gea has been doing since leaving Manchester United

David de Gea is yet to find a new club seven months after leaving Manchester United. The goalkeeper ended his 12-year stay at Old Trafford last summer upon being released as a free agent.

Andre Onana has since taken his place with Erik ten Hag also bringing in back-up ‘keeper Altay Bayindir, who is yet to make his debut although will make his bow when Onana leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations this month.

De Gea has been spotted in and around Manchester several times since his exit, having married fiance Edurne in the summer. It seems he has not been too stressed about finding new employers, keeping himself busy with other activities in the meantime.

According to the Athletic, the 33-year-old has been spotted playing padel, generally keeping fit and dining out with friends. He has attended United Women’s matches while also running his own esports team, Rebels Gaming, founded in 2021.

De Gea has received a number of offers from various clubs, including from some in the Premier League, but has been unable to come to an agreement with any potential suitor. He is willing to bide his time to find the right opportunity.

De Gea is said to be doing three to four fitness sessions a week to stay on top of his health ahead of any opportunities that may arise. There had been linked with Newcastle amid Nick Pope’s long-term injury but such speculation has coolled in recent weeks despite his free agent status being appealing amid the club’s Financial Fair Play concerns.
