Kylian Mbappe gives Erik ten Hag transfer consideration with Manchester United 'champion' message

Kylian Mbappe has spoken about Manchester United defender Raphael Varane with the centre-back potentially set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Recent reports have claimed that Varane's former club Real Madrid are interested in signing the Frenchman during the January transfer window. However, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the Spanish giants have no plans to sign a centre-back in this month's window.

And amid ongoing speculation over Varane's United future, Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe has heaped praise on his compatriot. The 25-year-old has spoken out on the impact that the defender's international retirement has had on Les Bleus in a move which could give Erik ten Hag some food for thought.

Mbappe told GQ: “This year we have lost great champions, very important players like Hugo [Lloris] and Raphael [Varane], but in the end the group has not been affected. That shows true cohesion and ability to adapt.

“We are one of the most anticipated teams in this tournament and we are prepared and confident. We qualified very well and now our goal is to win.”

Manchester Evening News understands Varane's future is in the balance as he is in a similar situation to David de Gea last year. Like with De Gea, United have decided against triggering the one-year extension in Varane's contract.
