What Chris Wilder said privately after Liverpool defeat shows Man City Premier League title feelings

Chris Wilder made his feelings clear on the Premier League title race after Sheffield United fell to a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

The Blades put on a fight at Anfield and drew level in the second half after Darwin Nunez's opener. An own goal from Conor Bradley had the visitors on course for a shock point until Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo were on target for Jurgen Klopp's side.

The victory sent the Anfield club top of the Premier League table with eight games remaining. Klopp's side are two points clear of Arsenal and three clear of Manchester City.

While Wilder was disappointed with the result, he hopes the Reds go on to lift the Premier League crown in Klopp's final season in charge. As he walked through the mixed zone at Anfield, he declared to a member of Liverpool staff: "I hope you win it – I mean that."

Speaking after the game, the Blades boss said: "Playing at Anfield in front of 60,000 going into the last 10 games of the season, it doesn't come more difficult for anyone, especially Sheffield United and the gulf between the two clubs.

"I just think the physical aspect of the game in the Premier League now has taken an incredible step forward. [Andy] Robertson coming on the pitch, the power and the pace of the Premier League, that's been our Achilles heel all season.

"And yet again Liverpool are finding goals late on and we're struggling to hang on in there; recovery runs late on, you've seen our players cramping up and struggling to get back on.
