West Ham: Record-breaking offer 'last thing £150m star wants' at London Stadium

West Ham United star Declan Rice is not expected to put pen-to-paper on the Hammers’ latest contract offer as it is ‘the last thing he will want right now’, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Rice has been on the east Londoners’ books since the age of 14, but David Moyes’ charges are eager to tie him down to a fresh long-term deal ahead of the summer window opening for business.

According to talkSPORT, West Ham have offered Rice a new eight-year contract worth £200,000-per-week.

The report suggests the Hammers are ’99 per cent’ certain that the 29-cap England international will still be at the London Stadium by the time the upcoming transfer window slams shut and the proposal, which could be extended by a further 24 months if wanted, would rise to match inflation.

Should Rice sign on the dotted line, it would be a record-breaking moment for West Ham as he would become the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

It comes just a matter of weeks after the central midfielder rejected fresh terms in east London and, at this stage, it is understood that Rice is not inclined to agree to the latest proposal.

The 23-year-old still has more than two years remaining on his £62,000-per-week contract and West Ham also hold an option of extending the deal by 12 months.

Jones does not believe Rice will be interested in penning an eight-year contract as it would impact on his chances of sealing a big-money move away from West Ham.
