West Ham could land 'good deal' involving £20.7m giant

West Ham United could secure themselves a ‘good deal’ by bringing Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic to the club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old has entered the final 15 months of his current contract and is reportedly edging towards the Stadio Artemio Franchi exit door.

According to Italian outlet Corriere Fiorentino (as relayed by Sport Witness), West Ham are in prime position to prise Milenkovic away from La Viola this summer following an extensive pursuit.

An array of Premier League and Serie A sides have been credited with an interest in the 6 foot 5 centre-back in recent months, and it seemed as though he was destined to make a switch last summer.

However, despite Milenkovic only having a year left to run on his contract, a transfer never matrialised, and it’s believed that a gentleman’s agreement was reached between the player and Fiorentina.

The Serbia international agreed to extend his deal by 12 months, and in return, Fiorentina guaranteed to sanction his exit this summer should a suitable offer some along.

West Ham, therefore, could secure a cut-price deal for Milenkovic, who is valued at £20.7m by Transfermarkt, bolstering their backline without blowing their transfer budget.

Since arriving in Florence back in July 2017 from boyhood club Partizan Belgrade, the Serbia international has established himself as one of the dominant defenders in Serie A, making almost 150 appearances in the competition.

And O’Rourke believes Milenkovic, who was described as ‘extraordinary’ by former teammate Pol Lirola, would be a valuable addition to David Moyes’ backline.
