West Ham could 'definitely move' for 'fabulous' £17.5m star at London Stadium

West Ham United could ‘definitely’ make a move for Burnley striker Maxwel Cornet this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old shone throughout his maiden Premier League campaign last term despite being unable to prevent his side from suffering relegation and has been linked with a move away from Turf Moor as a result.

According to The Telegraph, West Ham manager David Moyes ‘is considering a move’ for Cornet as the opening of the upcoming transfer window edges ever closer.

It’s believed that a £17.5 million release clause has become active after Burnley dropped into the Championship following a final-day defeat to Newcastle United, ending their six-year stay in the top-flight.

The Hammers could face stiff competition for Cornet’s signature, though, with fellow Premier League outfit Everton also credited with an interest in his services.

A new forward is believed to be high up on Moyes’ wish list in order to provide some much-needed cover and competition for Michail Antonio, and the versatile star could be an ideal candidate to do just that.

O’Rourke revealed to GiveMeSport that he could envisage the Irons trying their luck for Cornet but warned that he’s likely to be a ‘very attractive’ option for a number of clubs.

He told GMS: “I could definitely see West Ham making a move for Cornet. This relegation release clause makes Cornet very attractive to a number of clubs, not just in the Premier League but probably abroad as well.

“I think Cornet had a good debut season in the Premier League for Burnley; he was one of their better players.”
