Welling United manager Warren Feeney to discuss his future with chairman Mark Goldberg after keeping the Wings in National League South

Manager Warren Feeney says there’s a conversation to be had after leading Welling to safety in National League South.

Feeney, who succeeded Peter Taylor in March, has kept the Wings up with a game to spare after beating champions Maidstone 3-2 on Bank Holiday Monday.

The former Bournemouth and Luton forward agreed to charge for the final 10 games of the campaign following the unexpected departure of Taylor.

Three wins have secured Welling’s status and chairman Mark Goldberg will no doubt be keen to retain the services of the ex-Northern Ireland international, who’s been living out of a hotel after leaving his home in Belfast.

Feeney, whose previous job in management saw him lead Pirin Blagoevgrad to Second Division title glory in Bulgaria, doesn’t know what the future holds.

But he’s willing to sit down with Welling and you can’t say fairer than that.

Feeney said: “We’ll get this week out of the road and I’ll sit down and have a chat with the club and see where we want to go.

“Look, I’m open to everything.

“I’ve a good relationship with everyone here, I’m in every day myself, I’ve left the house over in Belfast to come here for the six weeks, seven weeks.

“I’ve come from a professional background all my life and the club’s been brilliant, so there’s definitely a conversation to have.

“I love it here but I’m not going to commit to anything because you just don’t know what happens.

“I had no intentions of getting back on the saddle (after finishing in Bulgaria) and the phone rang and I went, ‘Oh yeah let’s do it,’ so without being disrespectful to anyone, you just can’t tell what’s going to happen, but I’m sure we’ll have a conversation.
