Welling United boss Ryan Maxwell has experienced a first in football management.
Maxwell has revealed that every member of his squad wants to stay at Park View Road.
It’s a welcome scenario for the Northern Irishman who was keen to keep them together after leading Welling to Isthmian Premier survival.
The former Walthamstow, Braintree and Sittingbourne manager has been around long enough to know players can have their heads turned or want to look elsewhere.
But it seems, bar a couple of new signings, the Wings boss can look forward to a quiet summer, knowing the foundations are in place for next season.
Dean Gunner, Troy Howard and Jamie Reynolds are the latest names confirmed for the 2026/27 campaign.
“We’ve been very busy with retention, we’re really pleased that every single player has stated they would like to stay, which is the first time ever since I’ve been managing,” said Maxwell.
“That’s an indication of what the club’s become and how enjoyable the players have found it despite being in a relegation battle.
“We’ve won a good amount of games, we were sitting third in the form guide, and the only two teams above us in the last 10 games - Billericay and Brentwood - contested the play-off final, so we’re in a good place.
“Although I was surprised that every single player wants to stay, I understood it and they will all be given the opportunity to stay and fight for their spot because they deserve that.
“I’m a man who keeps things very fair and we made a decision weeks ago that every single player who’s contributing deserves the opportunity to stay.
“I’m a man of my word and they’ve all taken that opportunity to say they would like to stay.
“I’ve never blamed players for moving on and I don’t judge them for it.
