Welling United manager Ryan Maxwell on his plans for the Wings after signing two-year contract at Park View Road
Ryan Maxwell is determined to help Welling United fulfil their potential after signing a two-year contract to continue as manager.
The deal, which had been in place for some time, was announced over Easter as the Wings continue their push towards Isthmian Premier safety.
Maxwell, who took charge last November, has led Welling out of the bottom four, the club having been nine points adrift at one stage and fighting to avoid back-to-back relegations.
They were keen to share news of Maxwell’s contract, which settles any speculation over his future and gives them an extra push as they close in on safety.
“It was something we discussed earlier and hands were shaken but the club wanted to make it a public thing and do it the right way,” said Maxwell.
“Although I’m a man of my word, I do live in Essex and recently there’s been a few vacancies in Essex and I think that may have been another reason, to put that to bed.
“But I was very committed regardless. I’ve poured absolutely everything into this, so my commitment was never in question, but it was nice that the club came out and we put pen to paper officially and I’m looking forward to the next two years here.
“I think the turnover of managers in football is pretty quick in general but that’s not the case with myself.
“I’ve been loyal to my previous club and it did take me a while to turn Sittingbourne into what it is now.
“It took a lot of effort and I can certainly do the same here, just on a bigger platform.
“If you put so much into something, someone’s eventually going to take that over.
“Having two years, you commit to it one million per cent and you know it’s yours, so I think you’re even more committed, knowing everything you do affects how the club is shaped.
