We’re ready to cut Etoile Filante to size, says Enyimba

• NPFL postpones Insurance, 3SC match

Enyimba Football Club began preparations for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round game against Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso, immediately on arrival in Aba, yesterday. The return leg of the Confederation Cup tie holds this weekend in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The “Peoples Elephant” goalless draw with the Burkinabe side has put them in the driving seat for the group stage ticket. But despite having the advantage, Enyimba Manager, Yemi Olanrewaju, acknowledged that things could still go wrong as anything outside a clear victory in Uyo could spell doom for his side.

Speaking on the game, Olanrewaju, who praised his side for their outstanding defensive display in the first leg said that they have it all to do in Uyo.
He acknowledged that Etoile Filante have fast and skillful attackers, adding, however, that Enyimba would do everything possible to prove their superiority on the field.

“We dominated the game in the first leg, but we could not convert any of the four clear chances that we created in the match,” Olanrewaju said, adding, “We will correct that in the second leg and ensure that we make the best use of our opportunities.
“We can only celebrate when we finish the job in the second leg. They are a good and decent side, but tactically we had an edge and our game plan worked.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has postponed Bendel Insurance’s home game against
Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan till Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
