My personal GOAT is Messi — Okocha

Nigerian football legend, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has entered the ongoing debate over football’s greatest player, choosing Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo.

For nearly two decades, Messi and Ronaldo have dominated discussions about football greatness, amassing a record 13 Ballon d’Or awards between them—Messi with eight and Ronaldo with five.

In a recent interview with Pulse Fun Facts, Okocha praised both players but named Messi as his personal choice for the greatest of all time.

“They are both GOATs but my personal GOAT is Messi because he looks more natural to me,” Okocha said.

Okocha, whose illustrious career spanned from 1990 to 2012, was celebrated for his dazzling skills, especially during his time with Bolton Wanderers in England, where he earned the nickname ‘so good they named him twice.’

His endorsement of Messi adds a personal dimension to the debate, which also features opinions from other football greats like Paul Scholes.

Scholes, who played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United from 2003 to 2009, has also suggested that Messi holds the edge in the greatest of all-time discussion.
