"We just want to get mum home": Family's urgent appeal after mum found covered in blood in Turkey hotel room

A family are urgently appealing for help in bringing their mum home to the UK after she was found covered in blood in a hotel room in Turkey.

Fiona McCusker-Rae, 52, had recently lost her mum, Olive, and decided to go on a solo holiday to Antalya to get away from the recent stresses and unwind.

However, while she was there she called her daughter while curled up on the floor of her hotel room in pain and told her: “I’m covered in blood.”

“She was unable to move and seemed very disoriented,” her son, Cody Wood, told the Manchester Evening News.

Cody, 25, then rang his mum who had managed to crawl into bed, before they both repeatedly tried to call the reception in the hotel, to no success. His mum resorted to shouting and screaming for help, Cody said.

Eventually, he called 999 in the UK and the British Embassy in Turkey, who in turn got the police in Turkey to assist Fiona.

“My sister was on FaceTime to my mum the whole time. When the staff got to her she was covered in blood,” he said.

She was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and admitted to Antalya Life Private Hospital and immediately taken into the Intensive Care Unit. Speaking to the medics at the hospital, Cody was advised to go to Turkey as his mum’s condition was ‘extremely serious’.

He flew out on Friday, May 24, but was only allowed two minutes to speak with his mum.

“She was conscious and able to speak when I visited her. She said: “I told you not to come over”, and she said it was going to be alright. I think she was just trying to reassure me.
