'We hope' - David Moyes issues West Ham injury update ahead of Aston Villa clash

David Moyes has issued a fitness updates on two of his key players ahead of West Ham United’s home clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

As Villa were dispatching Leeds United 3-0 at Elland Road, the Hammers were beaten 1-0 by Sevilla in their Europa League first leg tie.

West Ham were without forward Jarrod Bowen after he suffered an injury in their 1-0 defeat at Liverpool at the weekend.

Asked about the status of 12-goal leading scoring Bowen, Moyes said: “I have no idea at the moment. We are still trying to clear up exactly the injury.

“In all the scans and information we have, it does not look too bad, but his action coming off the pitch at Anfield made it look more serious than we thought. And that has not added up.

“Since then, Jarrod is slightly improving but not as fast as we hoped, we did not think it was anything serious.

“So we are still trying to get to the bottom of it. Maybe tomorrow [Friday] we get back and Jarrod is okay, it could just be one of those things.”

Meanwhile, captain Declan Rice did play against Sevilla after recovering from illness which kept him out of Liverpool game.

“He does a great job for us, everybody is aware of how big a player he is and we hope he can go again,” said Moyes on Rice.

“He was really unwell over the weekend so it says a lot about him as he was very good tonight.”
