Huge boost: Jack Rosser drops big West Ham injury update, David Moyes will be buzzing - opinion

West Ham United have been handed a huge injury boost concerning centre-back Angelo Ogbonna.

That’s according to Jack Rosser’s latest report for the Evening Standard, in which the journalist revealed that, despite initially looking to be ruled out for the season after damaging his ACL back in November, the defender is now targeting a return to action prior to the end of the current campaign.

Rosser goes on to state that, while the 33-year-old is yet to do any work on the grass, the Italian has already resumed gym training, with there being confidence amongst those closest to the player that he can return to first-team football before West Ham’s final Premier League fixture on May 22.

With the heart of his West Ham defence having been something of a headache for David Moyes this season, Rosser’s claim that Ogbonna could be in line for a return to first-team action before the end of the season is sure to have left the 58-year-old buzzing.

Indeed, not only is the £1.8m-rated Italian extremely important to the Hammers on the pitch – with 1vs1 ranking the centre-back as the Irons’ second-best performer behind Declan Rice in the Premier League this season, as well as the 34th-best player in the division as a whole. The 33-year-old is also crucial off the pitch – with Ogbonna’s seniority and popularity in the West Ham dressing room being well documented.
