Wayne Rooney takes cheeky dig at former Man United teammate Gary Neville career ‘highlights’

Wayne Rooney jokingly poked fun at former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville over his career ‘highlights’ while on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

England’s all-time top scorer sat in the seat Neville usually occupies during a regular programme to analyse Crystal Palace’s win over Arsenal. The duo played together for seven years at United and lifted silverware nearly every season.

They also regularly played together for England and struck up a good friendship during their respective careers. And Rooney wasn’t afraid to take a cheeky dig at Neville in his absence while discussing his United career.

After a clip was shown of them both celebrating after the former striker had scored a goal, Rooney quipped: "That actually happened a lot with Gary and that is probably one of the highlights of his career — going to celebrate with other players when they scored!"

The teams Rooney featured in were used to winning trophies on a consistent basis. However, the current United squad are set to end a fifth season without silverware and Rooney later gave a sombre assessment on the team that takes to the pitch today.

"If I’m being honest, I have been to a few of the games and it looks like a team of individuals,” he said. "If one makes a mistake, then it makes it more difficult for the team.

“They are going through a tough time at the club. And the one thing that I want is for them to get the manager situation sorted as soon as possible, and then we have to rebuild to try and make sure that we are challenging again."
