Luis Diaz: Liverpool man had object launched at him by Benfica fan after goal
Liverpool have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals after defeating Benfica in their quarter-final first leg clash on Tuesday evening.
The Reds went into the clash in Portugal as the heavy favourites and they showed why with a dominant first-half display.
Ibrahima Konate was chosen to start instead of Joel Matip and the Frenchman opened the scoring after 17 minutes.
Andy Robertson delivered a superb corner and Konate powered a header home.
Sadio Mane doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 34th minute, giving the English side a comfrtoable two-goal lead at the break.
Benfica battled back after the break and reduced the deficit to one when Dawrin Nunez capitalised on Konate’s mistake.
But Luis Diaz would restore Liverpool’s two-goal lead late on.
The Colombian ran onto Naby Keita’s through ball, rounded Odysseas Vlachodimos and converted into an empty net.
That one would have felt good for Luis Diaz!
