Wayne Rooney net worth as Manchester United legend embarks on new job
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney will join the BBC Sport punditry panel on Wednesday night as his old club face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round.
Rooney is currently unemployed after a disastrous start to 2024. The 38-year-old was shockingly employed as manager of Birmingham City in October with the West Midlands club sitting in the Championship play-off places.
However, a terrible start which saw his new club winning just two matches in 15 led to the former striker being sacked on January 2. Since then, Rooney has taken time out to be with his family and has been invited back to Old Trafford to watch United.

But, he enters the public arena again tonight as he joins the BBC for their coverage of the FA Cup. Ahead of the match, MEN Sport has taken a look at his net worth.
According to reports, Rooney is worth a staggering £170m based on his career earnings to date. While at United, the forward earned a salary of approximately £300,000 per week, including his commercial partnerships.
When he moved to America to join DC United as a player, Rooney earned roughly £2.6m per year. Before being sacked by Birmingham, it is widely reorted that he was earning £29,000 per week for his services at St Andrews.
As of 2021, Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright received a yearly salary of £150,000 per year. Of course, this salary was achieved thanks to numerous appearances on the Premier League highlights programme.
But using this as a guide for what Rooney could be paid for a one-off appearance in the studio, the former United man could receive approximately £3,000 for appearing on the broadcast tonight.
