Wayne Rooney eyes sensational Misfits Boxing debut as KSI and Eddie Hearn contact made

Just weeks after his departure from Birmingham City, Wayne Rooney looks set to pursue a career in the boxing ring. The former Manchester United striker was sacked by the Championship outfit after a run of nine defeats in 15 games left them on the brink of relegation.

In an official statement, Rooney admitted that he 'will take me some time to get over the setback' and enjoy time with his family as he 'prepares for the next opportunity' in his journey as a head coach. It remains to be seen whether or not the 38-year-old will return to the dugout anytime soon – if ever again – but, in the meantime, he's set his sights on a new sport.

According to the Daily Star, Rooney has held talks about competing on a Misfits show, which sees YouTube stars and influencers such as KSI and Logan Paul battle it out for lucrative purses. The report claims that the former England international is considering swapping the tactics board for the boxing gloves while he assesses his options.

In October, Eddie Hearn revealed that Rooney frequently messages him about a fight, with a bout against Jake Paul at Old Trafford teased. Speaking on The Overlap, the boxing promoter said: "He won't mind me saying but after every big fight, especially with a YouTuber, sometimes Rooney will fire me a message."

Referencing an infamous sparring session which went viral on social media, Gary Neville then chimed in: "Did you not see him against Phil Bardsley?"
