Watch Nikola Katic miss FC Zurich sitter as former Rangers star left in disbelief

Nikola Katic wasn't known for his goalscoring prowess at Rangers, but his miss for FC Zurich was a shocker even for a centre back.

The Croat managed to send the ball wide of the target with the goal at his mercy during his side's 2-2 Swiss Super League draw away at FC Basel. The visitors lead early on through Lindrit Kamberi before Basel staged a turnaround, first levelling thanks to Leon Avdullahu before Anton Kande put them ahead.

The score was 2-1 when Katic had a golden chance to hit back within a couple of minutes of falling behind. Basel only partially cleared a corner and when home keeper Marwin Hitz could only parry a shot into the danger area, Katic's eyes lit up when the ball ran kindly for him and Hitz still on the deck. But the defender got his aim all wrong and could only fire into the side netting, to his and his team-mates' disbelief.

Luckily for the former Ibrox star, Cheick Conde did grab a second for Zurich nine minutes after the break to spare Katic's blushes. The game ended all square to leave Zurich fourth in the table after 29 games.

Katic scored six times in 59 appearances for Gers, including an Old Firm winner away to Celtic in 2019, and provided three assists across four years at Ibrox. He picked up a Premiership winners medal in 2021.
