Watch: Klopp can’t contain laughter in response to Guardiola jibe

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp couldn’t help but laugh when asked for his response to Pep Guardiola’s suggestion that ‘everyone in the country supports Liverpool’.

Manchester City have moved into pole position for the final stretch after Klopp’s side could only muster a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham on Saturday night.

Guardiola’s men are three points clear of Liverpool with three games left to play, which gives them the leeway to draw – or possibly even lose, given their superior goal difference – one of their remaining games.

Despite taking a giant step towards retaining the title this weekend, the Manchester City manager couldn’t help but throw a barb in the direction of their rivals.

“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone, of course because Liverpool has an incredible history behind in European competition – not in the Premier League because they’ve won one in 30 years – but it’s not a problem at all,” Guardiola told beIN Sports following Sunday’s 5-0 victory over Newcastle.

“The situation is what it is. We need to do nine points or maybe six right now, it depends what happens in the next two games in terms of goal difference, but now Wednesday is the real, real final for us.

“We are going to try to win there. Our destiny is in our hands and this is important. We have to look at ourselves. With one point or three points, nothing’s changed. We have to do it.”

Those comments – including the jibe about Liverpool’s comparative lack of titles – were repeated to Klopp during his press conference for Tuesday night’s clash with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

The Liverpool manager gave a characteristic response, struggling to hold back his laughter as Guardiola’s comments were read aloud.
